VilleDieu-les-Poeles

After our first day of driving we stayed in a small village called VilleDieu-les-Poeles.  It was a perfect little french village, everything you would expect.  They were having a big festival and it took us a while to figure out what was going on.  There were American flags everywhere and Native American statues all along the main road.  People were dressed up like Americans ( I never would have been able to say how exactly one would go about dressing up like an American untill this trip.)  There were a lot of boys dressed up like cowboys, and girls were dressed like flappers or hippies.  I think that because this town is so close to Normandy and the US troops rescued them during both World Wars, they celebrate our Independence day too.  We ate at a little cafe outside of our hotel, and then went across the street to the carnival and had Nutella Crepes!  Yum!  We fell asleep around 10:00 pm that night, we were exhausted, but then around midnight we were awaken by big huge booms and bright lights.  I opened up our window and saw they were lighting fireworks a couple streets over.  We had an excellent view of them over the rooftops of the village.  It was really neat!
