Nimes

After we left La Couvertoirade our day sort of went down hill.  We had to find somewhere to get gas in the car, but although there are gas stations every 12k or so along the Autoroute, that didn't mean that we would be able to find one that we could get to work.  In France they do accept Visa and Mastercard, however at the automatic pumps they only accept European ones.  You have to pump your gas first and then go inside and pay.  We had the hardest time figuring this out, we ended playing chicken with a semi truck, but eventually we got it worked out thanks in part to my fabulous French speaking skills, a cashier's limited English, and some really impressive charades.
We got stuck in some horrific rush hour traffic in MontPellier, from what we saw of this city it is totally worth avoiding, but when we finally made it to Nimes we descovered we were staying at a hotel in the hood, along with two tour buses full of American teenagers.  Good Times!!  Hmmm I wonder why French people don't like Americans?  We wanted to go into the downtown part of Nimes to see some Roman ruins, so we hopped in our rental car and proceeded to get stuck in some more horrific traffic thanks in part to construction on the main road through the city.  We made it downtown and by that point we were so exhausted that we didn't even want to deal with parking and walking around, we drove by the colloseum, it was pretty cool, then we went back to our hotel and ate  in the hotel restaurant.  It was disgusting, and that is being nice.  I ordered fettucini alfredo and somehow it came out tasting like tuna.  There were also about 20 American teenagers screaming and splashing around in the pool ten feet away from our table.  We ate, went back to our hotel room and I was sitting at the computer trying to send an email when an Italian man burst into our room.  That was shocking, apparently his room was on the 4th floor and he thought that is where he was, but we were on the first floor.  Our door wouldn't lock unless you really pushed it shut so we hadn't actually shut our door, when he put his card in the door just pushed open.  I don't have a single picture from Nimes.  I probably should have taken some, but I was in a pretty bad mood by that point.
