We went to London for Spring Break this year. It was freezing cold, but we had an amazing time.
We rented a flat in Kensington and loved it. It was a Victorian building and it was close to the underground, plenty of restaurants and stores, and it was right next to Kensington Gardens.
Kensington was the favorite palace of Princess Dianna. It is located in Kensington Gardens, in Hyde Park.
We did a lot of sight seeing! We walked all around Central London and saw things like Picadilly Circus, where we just happened upon the Royal Family :)
We also went to Trafalgar Square and saw the Lion statues.
We walked down to the Thames and saw Big Ben and Parliament.
We rode the London Eye...
...and we took a trip up to Kings Cross Station to try to make our way through the barrier at platform 93/4.
apparently we are witches, because we made it through and were able to buy our wands from Olivanders! We took a trip down Nocturn Alley and then finally made it to Hardy's Sweet Shop. The inspiration for Honey Dukes. We tried Bertie Botts Every flavor beans, Chocolate Frogs, and Sugar Mice. Audry got Cheetos... We tried to convince her to get something she couldn't get anywhere else, but she really wanted the Cheetos.
We also saw Westminster Abbey...
...and Buckingham Palace. We didn't make it in time to see the changing of the guard, but we did get to see some of the guards anyway.
We went to see the Tower of London, and the Tower Bridge. The Tower is one of my favorite places in London. The Tube had about half their lines shut down so getting back from the tower was a huge pain. We had to walk forever and ever to get to an open line.
We also made a trip to Hamleys Toy Store. It was a little bit like FAO Shcwartz, but I thought a little less grand. It was neat inside though because the employees were completely crazy! They had demos of the toys going on all over the store.
On our last day, we took the train out to Surrey and visited Hampton Court Palace. This was one of Henry VIII's favorites! I am a huge fan of Tudor history, so this was really fun for me. We made sure to do the Hedge maze...
We saw the Tudor Royal apartments.
We met some of the servants and toured the Kitchens and Wine cellar.
and we took a walk along the Thames.
It was definitely worth the train trip out to Surrey!
We had a great time in London! Can't wait for our next adventure.
